The Silence Issue One Summer 1995

The Silence is an independent literary journal published
as part of the Altx web publishing project. We are dedicated to
providing a human voice on the Internet, and we hope to balance
the commercial and corporate influence on the Web with a strong
artistic contribution. We will publish writers who have found
their voice but have yet to receive the recognition due them,
and we will present work that can stand on its own as artifacts
of the truth-telling imagination.
Submission Guidelines
- The ideal manuscript is a typed, double-spaced (single space
poetry) hardcopy original accompanied by a disk containing the
submission in Word for Windows format (we can also handle Wordperfect
for Windows, or even ASCII text). Manuscripts should have a self-addressed,
stamped envelope enclosed; if no return postage is included, we
will recycle your submission in an environmentally responsible
manner. Be sure your name and address is on every page. Mail your
submission to: The Silence, 12 W. Willow Grove Ave., Box 175,
Philadelphia, PA 19118.
- Email submissions must be in plain ASCII text and should be
sent to: silence@cs.widener.edu. If you send it as a plain email
letter, we should get it with no trouble at all. . . .
- We will not consider simultaneous submissions. Please do not
send us work that is under consideration by other literary journals.
- Our interest is in the best writing by new or emerging writers.
We have no subject matter preferences, nor are we pursuing any
one style of writing. We seek poetry, fiction and essays. At this
time, we are especially interested in essays on the writing life:
what jobs do writers take to support their craft? How does one
approach a poem or story? Have there been important influences
on your writing?
- We are not currently soliciting art for the journal.
- The Silence will read year-round.
- Payments are made in the form of a sense of deep satisfaction.
